Artist Statement
Inspired by the natural world that surrounds me, I photograph what I see. This body of work uses both the artificial light from my light table and natural light from the sun, captured through the lens of my camera. Influenced by the changing fall colors, both in life and death, I collected leaves of all shapes and sizes both from my hikes and garden for this work. The leaves were photographed with light shining through them giving them a translucent quality, whether from the sun or my light table, illuminating the foliage. A brief arrangement of sorts, patterns and textures both reveal and obscure. Photography is not just a recorder of reality; it’s the medium I choose to create another way of looking at things.
Biographical Information
I was born and raised here in Anchorage, Alaska where I developed my passion for photography. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a primary emphasis in photography in 1998 from University of New Mexico. Returning to Alaska after graduation I have been active in entering photography shows and competitions, as well as I’ve had a few solo shows of my own. I am currently on the board of Alaska Society of Outdoor and Nature Photographers.
