Artist Statement
Christina Anne Barber was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. She received her formal training at the University of Alaska Anchorage under the guidance of Hugh McPeck, a well-established Alaskan artist.
In 2001, Ms. Barber received a scholarship to study at the Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Florence. At SACI, she spent a year studying drawing, painting, and performance art. Through the latter. Ms. Barber worked with international performance artist, Lorenzo Pezzatini.
On Pezzatini’s recommendation, Ms. Barber applied for, and won, a scholarship to study at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, where she completed her Bachelors Degree in the Fine Arts in the Spring of 2005. At the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, she worked under the guidance of Dutch artist, Carin Carpay.
Ms. Barber currently lives and works as a professional artist in Anchorage, Alaska and Cologne, Germany. She exhibits her work in the U.S. and abroad. A short list of her gallery venues include: the De Badcuyp Gallery in Holland, the Mittvoch Gallery in Germany, the Studio Art Center’s International (SACI) Gallery in Italy, the Salander O’Reilly Galleries in New York City, the Bancroft Collaborative Gallery in Pennsylvania and the International Gallery of Contemporary Art in Alaska.
