Artist Statement

Impressions stemming from California’s Plein-Aire painters (artists who paint on location, Alla Prima) are the root of my inspiration as I put light, color and form--a painter’s essential elements, onto my canvases. Having lived most of my life in California, I integrate my interpretation of Alaska’s scenery using this perspective. The dramatic light here facilitates my painting.  One sees true, saturated colors.  As light shifts, one’s perspective of the day and its form is constantly being altered.  This art show, details my view of Alaska’s essential elements that draw people to its ever-changing beauty.

I have been painting for 6 years and am eagerly awaiting this, my fourth show.  My technical inspiration comes from painters such as Edward Hopper, Henri Matisse and Gustav Klimt. Seeing light and patterns in color and form, I try to capture passion and spark from within to guide me as I paint.

Contact the Artist

Snow City has been showing original local artwork since we opened in 1998. We are truly grateful to all of the artists who have shared their work with us, everything from incredibly colorful quilts and marionettes to beautiful watercolor and oil paintings.

During the winter months we host Alaska Quarterly Review on First Fridays with readings and eclectic music. Check out what's coming up at AQR
