Artist Statement
Painting is my key to serenity, my way down the path of happiness, my therapy, my fun.
My parent’s started it and my husband supports it. From the beginning the process of creating a piece with paint has struck me as delightful. And, over the years, that delightful process has had its way with me, leading me from hobby to art. Painting fills me with a sense of joy and abandonment, and has proven a most agreeable vehicle for translating inner vision to outer reality.
Watercolor used to be my main medium. Now I’m quite fond of utilizing acrylics and ink. Though I work quite deliberately, consciously employing both traditional and innovative techniques, my unconscious is the undisputed project manager. Now, my unconscious tells me to paint as if I’m looking at a beautiful piece of stained glass filled with flowing colors. Thus, my pieces are born.
The fluid nature of my work frees my imagination and provides many opportunities for happy curves and vibrant colors to influence the finished product. Sometimes the palette is subdued, but most of the time any more, NOT. “The brighter, the bolder, the better,” I say.
I used to be steeped in realism. Lately I have discovered that art truly needs to bring me a sense of inner joy regardless of whether it is based on reality. Inspired and invigorated by the idea that I can create a painting in any manner I choose, I am now creating richly varied colorful pieces in wild stained glass patterns. Once done, the pieces are fluid forms of color that aim to please not only me, but those who choose to share the fun.
