Artist Statement

Alascapes represents Robert Litsenberger’s recent photographic work and features panoramic images captured deep in the heart of the Alaska Range.

“As a climber/mountaineer I feel an extra special draw to the mountains.  I see them as places of worship, the churches and temples of the people before time. Standing monuments to the great and powerful forces of nature. The mountains are not sympathetic, caring, sensitive or hateful they simply exist, and will remain long after we are dust. It has been my humble pleasure to be amongst these stone giants and take record of them. I have expereinced triumph, joy, fear and death among them, and have done my best to respect them for what they are.  In a way, Alascapes is my attempt to honor the mountains and expose them to others who may never get a chance to walk amidst them. To bring a small amount of the freedom of these sacred areas back so that others may begin to access them.”

Robert Allen Litsenberger
Rob Litsenberger graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2004 with a degree in Graphic Design and Photography.  Post graduation he spent a month photographing Ireland.  Upon return he chose to move to Alaska to live amongst the mountains and experience the wilderness.  When he arrived he worked briefly with local photographer Myron Rosenberg.  Soon after he began work at PIP Printing, where continues to work.  He divides his free time between climbing and photography.  His plans for the future are to continue climbing and to produce a book of the consolidation of his landscapes and other photographic work.

Previous shows include: Beaners Coffee Shop-2001 Freedom Festival-2002 Midwest UFO Convention-2002 Tweed Museum of Art-2005
