Artist Statement
Since a very young age I have been on a quest: A personal art quest. What made me always carry a pen and a pad of paper is beyond me. Why has it been so vital to sketch and doodle through life and search my soul through the maze of those markings? I am still shaking my head on such oddities about myself but I have accepted it fully. I have added different mediums to explore deeper and for 10 years have started a long love affair with fibers.
Fabric has opened up a new way to express my visions and it has answered few riddles. It has given me the hues and the sensual touch that I needed to translate those black and white visions into colors. It has added another dimension with different rules that will require a lifetime of research and experiment to fulfill. So here I am living and breathing and absorbing like a sponge all that is around me, taking joy in the beauty of my surroundings, fighting emotions deep inside and finding ways to translate all this in my work. What I put in my art is something that has been filtered through my soul. I would say that I work in spurts. I will create a few pieces really quickly in a short period of time and then have a break of few weeks to recharge. That time is usually spent traveling, taking mental notes for future work frenzies, reading and collecting treasures, doing some photography, visiting my wonderful friends and enjoying my family. Everything is a source of interest to me.
Where I live, in Eagle River, Alaska, has given me a way to find a rhythm in my life. Here, there is enough peace and protection from the chaos of the world that I can regroup and feel whole, a sort of living meditation. Here I feel brave enough to be myself. So, on with the quest!
