Artist Statement
These paintings are highly textured surfaces exploring the recurring themes of the arctic environment and it’s impact on the interior psyche and soul.
Arctic Blue
Wind-whipped snow drifts on barren ice with aerial views of the incredible immensity below. Interlacing trails of tracks upon tracks and open water leads surrounded by blue black ice. All cracked and fractured by the formidable Arctic Winter.
Friends
Dragons, beasts, teeth baring fish, ancient metals and long fingered hands appear in the textured surfaces.
The surface building of the work is a very sense orientated process. Technically, I am interested in the structure of different mediums, solvents and paints working together to form a synthesis of layers.
Bio
I presently teach Art for the Anchorage School District. My teaching and art career started in Michigan then, Iowa, Nebraska, Idaho and finally to Alaska. I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to teach in the Yupik village of Goodnews Bay, Alaska for several years before in Anchorage.
I earned a BFA from Eastern Michigan University.
Aside from several solo shows in local venues, I have had work accepted into juried Art shows within and out of the state.
I am continually working to develop my artistic vision and to do the best work of which I am capable. I hope you enjoy the show!
