Artist Statement

Color speaks to me in spontaneous expression. Bold and vibrant hues give us pause as we go about our otherwise busy routines of life. Bright yellows and orange reflect the warmth of the sunlight or floral gifts of nature. Passionate reds and royal crimson, purple and gold denotes culture and ceremony. I paint and create from experiences, memories, dreams and visions. Originally from North Carolina, I ventured to Alaska in 1981. For eighteen years I taught art to children and adults of all ages. Now I create simply because it brings me pleasure and slows down this busy world in which we work and play. ♪Art is my life’s song, a tune for me to sing, to express the emotions and experiences of life in a colorful visual statement. I hope some of my work sings to you. It may revive an emotion or recall a memory, or maybe just brighten up the moment.

During the winter months we host Alaska Quarterly Review on First Fridays with readings and eclectic music. Check out what's coming up at AQR
