Artist Statement

Just this year I relocated to Anchorage from a small town, Vandalia, in southern Illinois. There was always an interest in art from early on in my life.

My early art training through elementary and high school led me to pursue a degree in art from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. At the time watercolor was not considered so acceptable in the painting world.

For the past ten years the medium has continued to intrigue and nearly consume me with a passion all its own. What it can say, its challenges, spontaneity and immediacy continue to fascinate me.
My pursuit has been to “push” the medium in color and value ranges and to “think like water” in a wide range of subject matter to simply feel the life of it and what it can do with addition of pigment.
There have been some awards along the way and purchases throughout the United States and some in Europe. My quest continues with painting what I choose and attempting to give it its own voice and identity through watercolor.

Contact the Artist

Snow City has been showing original local artwork since we opened in 1998. We are truly grateful to all of the artists who have shared their work with us, everything from incredibly colorful quilts and marionettes to beautiful watercolor and oil paintings.

During the winter months we host Alaska Quarterly Review on First Fridays with readings and eclectic music. Check out what's coming up at AQR
